Google has announced two significant updates to its Unknown Tracker Alert feature, introduced in July 2023, designed to help Android users detect Bluetooth trackers potentially used for surveillance or criminal purposes. These updates bring added functionality and improve user safety.
Temporary Location Blocking
One new feature allows Android users to temporarily stop location updates to the Find My Device network when an unknown tracker is detected. Google will block these updates for 24 hours, ensuring the smartphone’s location remains hidden from anyone who might be using the tracker for monitoring purposes.
Enhanced Tracking Detection
The second update introduces an enhanced Find Nearby function. When a user receives an unknown tracker alert, they can now view its last known location on a map by clicking the notification. This helps pinpoint where the tracker was last detected nearby.
If the tracker isn’t immediately visible, the Find Nearby feature will connect the smartphone to the tracker via Bluetooth and display directions to approach its location. Once close enough, users can activate the Play Sound function to locate the device audibly. Google also provides instructions for disabling the tracker if it’s found, adds NIXSOLUTIONS.
These updates represent a step forward in ensuring user privacy and security, providing Android owners with practical tools to protect themselves against unwanted tracking. Yet, we’ll keep you updated as more integrations become available.
